Tour Edge Exotics XCG-5 Fairway Wood Details
The XCG-5 Fairway Wood delivers a new benchmark in performance for Exotics clubs by Tour Edge. The boomerang face design is made of multiple levels of variable face thickness to maximize the spring effect from more points on the face. It features a titanium cup face and crown, a special titanium face insert for added distance, and an even heavier tungsten sole plate. The tungsten allows for a smaller more traditional-sized head with a low center of gravity. Plus, it provides 68% of the club head's total weight!
The XCG-5 is the only fairway wood on the market to use a titanium cupped face and tungsten sole. Tour Edge performs the process by brazing, which is extremely expensive for it must be done inside a vacuum chamber over several hours. However, this process is exceptional for reducing the residual part stresses and by using slow heating and cooling cycles. The end product has the desirable properties to produce hotter launches and a design for longer feeling shots.
Tour Edge engineers created an ultra-light and super-ultra-light version of the XCG-5 Fairway. The ultra-light is available in a Fujikura Blur 65 gram shaft and Aldila RIP Sigma 70 shaft and features the Exotics White New Decade grip. Keep in mind, the Fujikura Blur is a lightweight, higher balance point shaft designed to accelerate faster and generate greater swing speed without compromising solid and controllable feel. Meanwhile, the super-ultra-light version features a sub 26-gram Winn Lite Exotics grip and Graphite Design 40-gram Tour AD shaft that generates greater club head speed.
