University of Connecticut's Husky mascot, emerged as a result of a "ram-knapping." In 1934, a group of fun-loving UCONN students stole University of Rhode Island's Ram mascot before a football game. The "ram-knapping" made national news and instigated the adoption of UCONN's own first mascot, the Husky. One month later, the first Husky was delivered to campus and was named "Jonathan", after the first governor of Connecticut during the Revolutionary War, Jonathan Trumbull. Did you know? UCONN's husky is a rare breed, as only 1 in 100 huskies are born entirely white.
