The Taylor Made Raylor Rescue golf club is popular on Tour, being played by Kenny Perry and Fred Funk, and made its debut at the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black in June 2009. Since then the Raylor has remained in their golf bags and continues to gain popularity in web forums. Why all the buzz?
The Raylor has a V-shaped sole, much like a boat’s hull, that helps the club tear through nasty lies often found in the rough. But this “floating” effect isn’t just for roughs — the club is just as useful from the fairway and odd-angle shots. The screw weight on the sole is placed low and back (“deep”) to stabilize the clubhead and increase MOI during the swing.
Also of note is the club’s simple look: instead of flashy graphics and distracting colors the Raylor is mostly black and silver, with a hint of red on the weight. This adds to the feeling that this club is meant to get the job done right the first time, just grab it and go; no fuss or flash, just results.
