What Did Tiger Wear Today at The Masters?

Tiger Woods took in some final preparation today arriving early at Augusta National to get in some range work and a (relatively) quick nine holes while wearing his Nike Tiger Woods TW Chest Stripe Polo in Violet Force/Fiberglass/Metallic Silver. At The Masters: What Did Tiger Wear Today?

Tiger Woods tooled around Augusta national in the company of 14 year old Tianlang Guan on Tuesday in preparation for the start of the Masters, and then talked to the press. He said he feels comfortable at Augusta National, and that he’s comfortable with “every aspect” of his game right now. That has to be worrisome for the rest of the field. He also looked comfortable, and why not? The man has his own apparel line. Today he was sporting the Nike Tiger Woods TW Trajectory Polo in Electro Orange and Nike Tiger Woods TW Ultralite Pants in Stadium Grey/Metallic Silver.   We’ll let you know what Tiger’s wearing today, so you can be appropriately attired tomorrow. Tiger Woods and Nike Ready for The Masters

The Masters begins in just two weeks and every golf fan knows which golfer will be favored to win. Tiger Woods recently regained World Number One status over fellow Nike athlete, Rory McIlroy. With his third victory in five PGA starts this year,  Tiger appears primed to add a fifth Green Jacket to his collection. Like Jack Nicklaus before him, Tiger seems always to be at his best at Augusta National, the home of The Masters. For even the casual fan, there’s just something about the year’s first Major that heightens interest in the game. It’s a special place, Augusta National, and the Masters is a special tournament that breeds special champions—like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. The Limited Edition TW13 is Tiger’s shoe, made to his exacting specifications, and decked out with deep green, yellow and red accents on the outsole, eye-stay and tongue. Modeled after the Nike Free running shoe, the TW13 is known for its superior feel, fit and function—and Tiger wears them for every round. The TW13 may not be the only reason Tiger has regained his Number One position in the world, but they are distinctive enough, just like the Masters, to inspire this special version for a limited time and in limited quantities. The 2012 Ryder Cup (Un)Official Team Bios

The Ryder Cup began today with the first group of foursomes teeing off at 7:20 a.m. In the week or so just ended, the golf press has been filled with speculation about pairings and debate over which team is the stronger of the two. That specul buy cialis without prescription ation and debate attempts to divine meaning from statistics, historical Cup performance and course set-up in order to predict the winner. Inevitably too, the lead up to The Cup included the biannually-regurgitated theory that the reason the Euros have won so many of the recent Ryder Cups past is because of their camaraderie and team unity.   While all that is of interest to Ryder Cup fans and golf junkies like me, in the end I really don’t care. I don’t care because the Ryder Cup always seems to come down to putting. The team that putts best wins. And why wouldn’t that be the case? The 24 golfers assembled at Medinah Country Club are among the best in the world, featuring 9 of the top 10 and 17 of the top 20. The second worst Official World Ranking among all 24 is Martin Kaymer, a Major champion and former world #1. So you’ll forgive me when I place little credence in speculation about team unity, desire and other nebulous concepts, particularly the stuff about ball-striking. While there’s a difference even among these guys in pure ball-striking ability—give me Tiger or Rory any day versus Ian Poulter in that category—such, as we might note from Tiger’s 13-14-2 Cup record versus Poulter’s of 8-3-0, doesn’t necessarily translate to Ryder Cup success. Play Well or Stay Home: Ryder Cup Decisions Hinge on Deutsche Bank

Jose Maria Olazabal finalized the European Ryder Cup team Monday by announcing Ian Poulter and Nicolas Colsaerts as his two Captain’s picks. In the end, there was no drama regarding these picks, and no real choice to be made, as both Poulter order viagra and Colsearts were obvious. It couldn’t have been easier for Olazabal.   In contrast, US Captain Davis Love might be feeling a bit confused this week. Thanks to the rule changes made by the PGA at the request of Paul Azinger when he captained the squad in 2008, Love has until September 4, the day after the Deutsche Bank Championship concludes, to select not just two but four Captain’s picks to add to his team of eight already qualified via points. The idea was to give additional picks, and additional time, so the US Captain could load up on hot players going into the Cup. That was a great idea, but it has to be making Love lose just a bit of sleep–at least it should. Read the rest of this entry »

Tiger v. Rory: The Playoffs (and Arguments) Begin

The FedExCup playoffs commence Thursday at The Barclays where the top 125 in the points standings will tee it up for the chance to claim, well, whatever it is they give for winning the FedExCup. There’s a lot of cheap viagra money, of course, and that’s incentive enough, even for guys who make six figures annually for wearing a particular brand of golf shirt. I have no idea whether the pros actually care about whatever recognition comes with winning the Cup itself, although there would seem some truth to the claim that the Cup identifies the guy who played well all year. Call it the “Mr. Consistency Award.”   The fact is, I don’t know a great deal about how the FedExCup works, but I know everything I need to know, which is this: players can earn points in each event played during the regular season, with Majors and WGC events counting for more than regular field events, and events held opposite WGC events and the Open Championship earning less. At the conclusion of the regular season, the top 125 point earners make the playoffs. The field is narrowed after each of the first 3 playoff events, culminating in the top 30 making the Tour Championship. Theoretically, any player in the Tour Championship has a chance to win the FedExCup. Making the Tour Championship is a big deal and winning it is a very big deal. I suspect players care more about simply making the Tour Championship field than they do about winning the FedExCup. Read the rest of this entry »

PGA Day One Notes

Weirdness prevailed on day one at the PGA. The wind was virtually nonexistent, which, combined with soft conditions led to better-than-expected scoring. That was only mildly interesting. The weird part was seeing John Daly post a 4 under par 6 mail order viagra in uk 8. It shouldn’t come as any great surprise that Daly played well. He’s been quietly having a good run in 2012, playing wherever he gets an invitation and for whoever (in Europe) is willing to pay for his presence. It’s been interesting to see a Daly who looks oddly businesslike on the course. There’s something a bit refreshing about watching JD play well. Everyone knows he has immense talent, but I think most people just got tired of his drunken redneck shtick. It became a little tedious…so it’s fun to see Daly back on a leader board and both looking and sounding like he means to try. Of course, it’s entirely possible that no sooner will this post go up than Daly will fire six balls in the ocean somewhere, card a 21 on a par three, duck under the ropes for a beer, flip the PGA the bird and drive to Charleston to get married. You just never know. Read the rest of this entry »

Long is the New Long: PGA Championship Picks

The PGA Championship begins tomorrow and it’s time to make my guesses for both contenders and the ultimate winner of the year’s final Major. The problem, it occurs to me as I scan the three pages of notes scattered on my desk, is I’m beginning to take this way too seriously. Readers of this blog might recall that I have semi-regularly posted my pre-tournament picks and reasons therefore, but I’ve done so while acknowledging that predicting the outcome of a given golf tournament is nothing more than a guess dressed up in its Sunday statistical best.   I enjoy reading mainstream golf publications in the week of the Majors, and other noteworthy events, wherein golf experts offer varied and sundry reasons to support their predicted winners. I enjoy this because their predictions are, well, predictable–and predictably wrong in the end. The only safe prediction is that no one can predict anything, especially as it pertains to golf. So why, you might ask, am I sitting here fretting over three pages of statistics in advance of committing my picks to this post? Well…I got lucky. I picked Ernie Els to win The Open Championship. And having tasted the magnificence of being correct in that guess, I want to do it again. Ernie was an 80 to 1 long shot to win and I picked him. And I did so based on my astute analysis of statistics…or not. In truth, my hunch on Ernie was founded on not much more than the rather random fact that the greens would be relatively slow at Royal Lytham. That, and my observation that Ernie had been playing well for the last year but couldn’t buy a putt. Thus armed with a bit of knowledge and my own experience that shaky putters do better on slower greens, I figured Ernie might do well. Read the rest of this entry »
