Wilson FG Tour Urethane Golf Ball Optimized for New Grooves Rule

The new Wilson FG Tour Urethane Golf Balls are optimized for use with golf clubs using the new grooves required by the USGA/R&A to satisfy condition of competition rules. The new grooves in new and upcoming clubs will produce less friction and therefore less spin and control, prompting golf balls to become the solution to the Tour-inspired problem. The Wilson FG Tour Urethane golf balls are multi-layer urethane golf balls, which produce tour caliber spin, maximum greenside control and excellent distance. In short, the FG Tour sticks (creates more friction) to the shallower and softer edges of the new grooves in golf clubs. Keep reading for more information. Read the rest of this entry »

The new D-FY™ Combo Set has golf’s first graphite/steel shaft, the Half-and-Half™ Shaft. The D-FY Combo Set with Half and Half shaft is ideal for low-to-mid swing speed players who desire distance, power, industrial design and leading edge “cures” for shot imperfections, ultimately delivering — above all else — straight ball flight. The patent-pending 76-gram Half and Half shaft delivers exceptionally low torque and the response of a steel shaft fused with the lightweight and vibration-dampening of a graphite shaft. Titleist Vokey Condition of Competition Wedges Conform to 2010 Groove Rules

The new Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled Condition of Competition Wedges conform to the upcoming 2010 USGA/R&A Groove Rules and can be used in tournaments and match play that require the new grooves. The previous Vokey models were widely used on Tour, with nearly 50% professional players choosing Titleist (the nearest competitor was under 20%!). Titleist is making the extra effort to produce condition of competition (CC or C-C) clubs and regular clubs for casual players, but expects adoption of the new grooves since players will want to stay at the forefront of golf technology and rules, and prepare themselves for the impending industry-wide transition in the near future. Some golf companies and golfers have already made committments to the new groove rule condition of comepetition — have you? Read the rest of this entry »

Square Drivers Win at US Open, British Open: New Golf Club Paradigm?

Nike Golf introduced square-headed golf clubs, including drivers, several years ago into a market firmly committed to the familiar round edge clubs. The notion that square clubs were great for amateurs and nobody else was crushed when Lucas Glover won the U.S. Open in June using a square driver and Stewart Cink won the British Open in July using a square driver. Nike Golf players have won seven other tournaments worldwide using Nike square drivers. Based on recent sales figures and rapid adoption among PGA Tour Pros, it seems that ‘new geometry’ clubs are set to be the new golf club paradigm. Keep reading to find out which square clubs the Pros use, and why the clubs’ high MOI (moment of inertia) matters so much for great performance. Read the rest of this entry »
